Ham Radio Deluxe 5 Download – About Last free version
Why downloading the latest free version of Ham Radio Deluxe is now so difficult, but not impossible.
My ugly story with the latest freeware versions of Ham Radio Deluxe
Ham Radio Deluxe was a popular free to use and distribute amateur radio program suite that allowed remote control of most popular transceivers using CAT interface.
Along to a logging program, Ham Radio Deluxe 5 offered DM780 a multimode decoding encoding software that allowed CW RTTY PSK and more operating modes.
Many other features were offered by this amazing ham radio program, developed by Simon Brown GK4ELI (HB9DRV) and Peter PH1PH (sk) under the freeware licence.
In 2011 Simon released the very last free version of ham radio deluxe, the version 5.0 Build 2893. Only this version can be considered the last free build completely compiled and distributed from Simon Brown HB9DRV.
At the end of 2011, Simon sold to the code to a private owned company that continued for some months developing new versions releasing builds from version 5.11 to 5.24.38 and kindly made available free from their web site.
After some years, this private company discontinued supporting and distributing older versions and released a new commercial version 6.
Now this company is asking everyone that is sharing the old binaries from their site, to remove every copy of it.
I used to share those files from this page but, two years ago I had to remove them from my hosting space, after being “kindly asked” from W4PC. I’ve learned that this happened to several other hams wanting to share the freeware version, and probably with the same, non courteous approach used with me.
Well, after having even kept in contact with Simon GK4ELI, and with other hams, I’ve recently decided to unlink the binaries from my web site. As far as I known, they are working hard contacting all other hams and asking to remove old Freeware files from their web sites, declaring to be “the sole owners of every single version of Ham Radio Deluxe ever created”, practically changing the History.
I don’t know if this is legally correct or not, I’m not a lawyer, but certainly I don’t want troubles. This is just a hobby for me, and my goal is just to help other hams, in pure ham-spirit.
The Licence Agreement I accepted

Can you spot the article where it says that the terms can be changed? Article 3 refers to failure to comply with any term or condition… that’s all what we can read. However, this is just legalese lingo… subject I do not really master, but some doubts I have are certainly legitimate.
I feel now in right to distribute this version, but I’m feeling embarrassed and I’ve decided to refrain from distributing more.
Please note: versions higher than 5.0, have a different license agreement, and different owners, and as stated before, can’t be distributed anymore.
Is it still possible to download it ?
The answer is, yes it is…
As per August 2018, on the web, and not only on google, but also on P2P file sharing systems, I’ve recently found lot’s of working copies of the setup binary files. But sorry I will not directly post links here 😉 not anymore.
As suggestion I can tell you to not waste time looking for Ham Radio Deluxe Free version on google, you will end up with a lot of broken or removed links, search instead for the HRD_5.0.2893.zip file name, this will sharpen your search results.
I still have installed on some PC the old freeware version, and probably many other hams, like me, still have the setup files. So, ask your friends.
Alternatives to HRD ?
Well, unfortunately there is not yet a free all-in-one product like HRD, but you can always look for other Ham Radio Software
Below the list of latest builds of version 5, built and made available by the private company that can’t be distributed anymore.

At the end…
My intention was just to help other hams, running old PC, to continue to take advantage of the great work Simon did, for our community, in the pure and genuine ham spirit, and not to create any damage or issue to anyone.
I’m sorry, if this sad story will put in bad light someone, but this is exactly what happened (at least, in my opinion).
Take your own conclusions, and remember.. ask your Ham Friends, this will solve.
Does your software work with the Icom pcr1000,i have been given one,or is it now obsolete,i have tried different programmes to try and get it going on windows 7,also sent help requests all over, with no response, thank you.
Hello,
though I do not provide support for this software, I can answer that in any case, it works with PCR1000, as I have used it in the past with that receiver.
I love HRD (and a lot of other software) but I think the update from this one to the new commercial version is a but overpriced. from free to over $100 is way to much.
Thanks for offering the “old” but still perfect working v5 here.
I don’t have a problem with buying software, but this one is over the limit for me (I prefer to buy another radio for my money, and use the free tools available)
just something else, I did just build a Bluetooth module in my FT857d mic, module did cost me $12 and works perfect with my android, am now going to test HRD.
(if you also want bluetooth CAT control google “Bluetooth CAT yaesu” you find a lot of info.

Hi Simone,
Can you tell me what the difference is between version 5.25.36 and 5.25.38 (British English Fix)? I’ve been running version 5.0 Build 2893 for years and currently still am. Thank you in advance and very 73!
Cliff – KU4GW
Grazie Simone che hai mantenuto ham radio free.. Paolo iw4egp
Many thanks!

Thank you so much for providing this. I’ve been off the air for almost 3 years and now find HRD is pay software and version 5.xx.xx is no longer available for download from HRD’s website.
What a shock this was. Again, thank you VERY much for hosting version 5.

Ho perso il file che prima si poteva scaricare. E come si dice……mi sono sentito perso…..Ma grazie a te ho risolto il problema. Grazie 1000. 73 e buoni dx
Hello Simone, Does your software work with the Linex OS please.
Hello
1st this is not my Software… as stated in introduction.
2nd no, HRD Ham Radio Deluxe is just a Windows application. May work however using emulation environments, but it’s a MS Window binary code.
Lo so.. li ho raccolti prorprio per questo 🙂
Cliff, Not sure what Ham Radio Deluxe British English Fix exactly is, but looks like a localized version fix… something related to language.

Thanks for the download it’s not available from their website!
Please answer for may question. I using HRD versio 4………. Now i wont update on version 5. I must befor update uninstaling old version? Thanks. Igor.
many thanks for wales
Hi Igor, I’m sorry I do not offer support for this software.
thanks for the software. It is great.
Is it possible to add a new radio model, icom IC7100?
Or is it feasible to specify a similar Icom radio to mostly work with the 7100?
I realise I would need to change the ci-v address, but would the commands and audio mostly work the same?
I’m not the author and I do neither offer support SRY.
Sir,
I am retired and extremely disabled. Our income is very small (because I cannot work), and being asked to pay over $US100.00 for a program is very disappointing, no matter how good it is, and yes, it is really good but so are a few others and they are free.
Hello, does works this sofware with Windows 8 plesae ?
Thank you
First I would like to say HRD is a great piece of software, and I agree with everyone else, $100 is too much to pay, people would probably go for it if it were maybe $30 bucks. and they would have lots of $30 bucks made until they release the next version. In addition to that I believe that many companies are taking advantage of amateur radio operators because it’s such a proprietary market. There’s no reason why rigs need to cost $10,000+ They still have the same noise that all rigs have and still put out 200 watts like other $1k rigs and have that same DSP and IF filters and nonsense that is just gibber jabber. When heathkit came out with a radio in the 50’s it dollar equivalent in todays money is about $200, Now that’s a bargain, rigs out today are un-necessarily pricey. Amateur radio is a hobby, it’s not a profession. The few people that do the emergency broadcasts are volunteers, they don’t make anything either. They do this with SLR camera’s as well. Nikon sells their DSLR’s for thousands and they still have compressed video, and they want you to spend thousands on the body then require you to boast a few more thousand for the lens because it’s a “full frame” camera and it needs a “full frame lens” guess what! 35mm film is a full frame camera dammit and they were cheap and every time you snap a photo you are essentially using a brand new full frame sensor, so where’s the logic in that. I can go on and on but you get the picture (pun intended)
Thank you for providing this download.
Thank you Simone for providing these links, as HRD no longer provides them. I only wanted to use the HRD rig control for my Icom, but I couldn’t see spending $100 U.S. just for that option.
Simone
Ciao, grazie!
Io ho aggiornato… e funziona tutto come prima… 🙂
Simone
Grazie!
Note : for Francis Toboni on the Icom pcr1000 , use the programe that came with it , but run it on your PC with a copy of Microsft vitual PC , with Window XP Loaded .
You must have 1 RS232 port free , USB To RS232 Converters will not always work with there timming
due to buffers. Works ok with mine with free RS232 , but it does mean you need a copy of the Windows XP to load onto the MSVPC .
it should.. but I’ve not tested HRD on Windows 8 yet.
I used your program for long time and then some one comes along and now people cannot afford the program. They just left us hanging and loosing lots of information. One hundred dollars is too much. I would be glad to pay for reasonable amount. What says they will not do the same thing agin. why do the editors make the program an reasonable price and I bet they would make more and help .ots of people. O>K> I am off the stump now. 73
Well, I do also think price is too high, but this is not my program. Read my page… I’m not that Simon 😉
Thank you Simone, for maintaining this archive.

Dear Simone,
I have downloaded the Ham Radio Deluxe 5.24 version and I have a problem with reading the frequency. I have ticked DTR and RTS. The errors read as follows:
frequency = 0
IC-R20, com2, 19200, failed to read frequency
Make sure your radio is switched on and not in memory mode.
If you are using a homemade/non-standard cable you may need to select RTS and/or DTR.
Can you please assist.

Thanks for making this software available. I agree with the other comments….the new 6.1 software is far to pricey $$$$.

Firstly , and quite most importantly – thank you to Simone for hosting this site, something I expect no doubt he does not get for FREE.
Secondly
@ MIKHAIL You have absolutely no idea what your talking about.
@ JIM Whats wrong with you ? Just because you are old and disabled does not mean software should be any cheaper for you than anyone else! Stop Moaning ! The guy is offering the software links free of charge to you -at a cost to him to maintain the server the files are on!
@ EVERYONE . Stop asking questions like can you include this can you fix that . Simone does not OWN the software or provide any kind of service for it!! Stop asking if a new radio can be added . Stop asking if new functions can be added ! STOP MOANING about something that’s free.
HRD is now commercial . It’s thanks to people like Simone that we can all still use it without lining the pockets of the man who is trying to make a load of money out of it. Simon Brown made it for hams and made it free for hams. I think he sold it to the American businessman because he was so fed up with stupid people asking dumb questions and then complaining about something that didn’t coast them a dime! If you cant work out that this man is only hosting the files then you shouldn’t even have a Radio licence.
I’ve been looking High and Low for the Free Version on the HRD site. Luckily I found your site with it on.

Thank you so much Simone for keeping this available on your site. It has been years since I have worked digital modes and I am so glad that I can get back into it with one of my favorite programs. I was quite crestfallen when I went to the HRD site and could not find any of the older versions. You are a lifesaver. Thank you again!

Thank you for having these programs and the antennae info. on your website. Blessings to you.

I thank you for hosting the older version of HRD. For me the need is in using older hardware. The new version is just fine but, it is more resource hungry. Having the old version lets me use my old laptop in the radio room and keep it there. That’s a good thing. Thank you again.
hello im having a problem uploading my log book to lotw
Sorry don’t offer support to HRD. (mine works ok btw)
It is unfortunate that the new owners of HRD seem to be rapaciously greedy. Thank you for putting this link up.
Many thanks for hosting these files.
It is very appreciated 🙂
Kind regards,

Is there a Linux version of HRD
Thank you very much for hosting this Simone! Best regards,David G0FVT
No.
Al, can’t support you on this but it surely does not depends from HRD.
Reading the questions/requests on this thread, addressed to Simone is almost as much fun as using the F-R-E-E free version on the air. How anyone can READ threads then ask Simone for support is beyond belief.
Perhaps licensing requirements should be tightened up to remove these unworhies from our midst.
Thanks Simone for keeping old free versions of HrD its very helpful.

May I add my thanks to you Simone for maintaining this archive, I’ve been to it on several occasions now and find it extremely useful.
I purchased the commercial version about two and half years ago and had a problem after replacing my hard drive. I put my problem on to the forum, and it was suggested to me that I needed to submit a ticket to the owners. I did so but as my one year’s right to technical advice had expired no help was forthcoming. I didn’t want to pay another $50 just to get back to where I had already been, and so have returned to Simon’s final free offering.
It certainly is a very cool piece of software.
Nice web, Simone.
Tks. 73s.

I will work as long as with version 5.x here.
The version 6 is same version 5!
100 USD for what?
100 USD ist okey with new digital mode JTx, DSSTV, SSTV, etc. not with extern modul (SSTV) this is bad!
Thanks for the old versions from HRD on this page…

Greetings – – – What is the BRITISH FIX that makes HRD version 38 different from version 36??
Thank you for posting the free versions of HRD. I try and keep my amateur activities separate from any commercial interests, and it irks the hell out of me when amateurs succomb to the quest for money, as did Mr. Simon.
I don’t read any foreign languages but I think I can figure out most of what you are trying to say with your various projects. Take care, and

It is almost comical how many times you have to say–over and over—that this is not your software, and you do not provide support for it.
Hi Simone,
Thanks for offering this download. I installed this version on several computers but I don’t get the cluster-window (not even the choice in the pull down menu). Am I overlooking something? The old install on another machine has the cluster window which I like a lot.
Tnx de PA3GQD
Tks for keep this, 73!
I have an earlier version of HRD and use it with FT950 on Windows 8 and it works perfectly, however, I am changing radios–going to newer FTDX 3000. My version of HRD only supports the FTDX 5000 and 9000, so my question is will it work with the 3000 anyway, or am I going to have to go with one of the last free versions that was made? One other question–when downloading a newer free version–do I delete what I already have or just download over top of it??? Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer those questions. email me at wv4tn.tn@gmail.com
No, Don, I think it is rather sad that people can be that stupid and still be allowed to have a amateur radio license.
And for Simone:
No, Don, penso che sia abbastanza triste che le persone possono essere lo stupido e ancora consentito di avere una licenza speciale di radioamatore.
Thanks a lot for hosting this download.
I’d like to try it on my Windows 8.1 tablet and did not find the install files on my hdd.

Hi Don
I have just move over to 64 bit PC and Windows 10. My old HRD software will not work so I am trying your versions. Will let you know if ok
Thanks Howard 5B4AHX
I had some problems to get i work with Yeasu FT-450 but some research and testing it finally works. First check com port settings. for me it works with 38400 bits/sec(your radio should also be 38400, data 8, parity none, and I don’t know the English name for it (stopbits??) but there’s a seclection 1, 1.5 and 2, I selected 2, tested with 1 but it didn’t work.
Dear Simone,
First and foremost, many thanks for your effort to keep the HRD versions “alive” on this page, and your help.
I am writing here as I have encountered an issue with XML data retrieval from QRZ.com.
I have a valid subscription to QRZ XML till June 2016 (had a reply from QRZ editor today that everything is fine.
Still HRD (v.5.24.38) can not retrieve any data from QRZ. All parameters are set correctly (select QRZ on first page and the XML option on second page), callsign check from testing XML box returns correct data of callsigns entered, but when pressing OK and returning to Logbook page, if you check again whether it did hold the settings there is nothing kept and all there are, are the default settings. So it seems software does not keep the selections entered.
I have checked HRD on 4 (!) PCs (2xXP Pro, Win-7/64bit/Home Premium and a Win-7/32bit/Home Premium) and all installations have the same problem.
Closing firewalls, antivirus etc does not correct the issue.
So, before gettigoins nuts :-), I though asking either you or other amateurs here, whether they have encountered this very issue before.
In the meantime will download and install earlier versions to test.
Any info on this issue will be highly appreciated!

Thank you for hosting this site and assisting so many hams by providing old versions of HRD software. Its much appreciated.
Just a plug for HRD paid version and their support… I have had excellent support from them. The software is awesome, but it is expensive. But, I can attest to their customer service. I have had them actually call me at home when they though they could improve my setup. Also, they spent hours rebuilding my computer when I goofed it up. I have more than gotten my moneys worth. But, is it worth the yearly license fee?? For me, yea probably, but for you…. well, that’s your call.
Well done on keeping the last free edition available to anybody without deep pockets
tnx Simone
I have posted the free edition on my home page for download also.
Hello Simone
Thank you for the HRD software you DID produced and all the help over the years you gave hams all over the world !. I have tried the new version commercial software and to be real truthful IT SUCKS !!! It is bulky slow and has a lot of problems and I tried it on Win 7-7×64-10 first & 10 latest versions & I don’t think it will EVER come close to yours !! granted it has a few fancy new features BUT I never used them except to find out what they would do . I have removed all traces of the new version as to NOT offend the publishers (HEAVEN FORBID) and went back to my original FREE copy of your superior software. THANK YOU
Barry, tnx for comment, I’m not the author by the way.
I was wondering if you could tell me if this program works with all radios, or just ICOM? I have found a copy of the program, and can’t get it to work with QYT, Baofeng, or zastone.. How about RTL-SDR?
list of compatible radios is on the documentation. Mainly ICOM KENWOOD YAESU ELECRAFT Will not work with RTL SDR.
my HDD crashed so I have lost my version of HRD 5.25, fortunately I backed up my logs but not the program. I tried a trial version of V6 and honestly I cant justify almost AU$150 for very little advantage over the original V5 now I notice the have replaced all the links to the free version with links to V6. with this in mind, does anyone please have a copy of Does anyone please have a copy of HRD 5.25.36 ?
Thanks so much for the info on HRD v 5.
I am very curious to evaluate the previous program RADIO OPERATIONS CENTER.
ROC was also created by W4PC.
When HRD was released ROC seems to have completely vanished. ROC as far as I
am aware was a more complete solution for data modes, because HRD mainly relies
on external software to operate. Is there any place to download ROC? It is a terrible shame
that companies like Timewave produce such an expensive product (PK232SC, $600 U.S.)
but no longer offer any software for it like they used to (PC Pakratt). One of their solutions
is to use Hyperterminal, which hasn’t been available in Winderz for almost 20 years! And
REALLY – a command line interface? Simply ridiculous.
I am looking for HRD 5.24.38 but your site has no place to download this version.
I have 5.24.36
WOuld you send me a link to where I could download this version please.
